For the past week, bSafe, Angry Birds and Facebook apps have vied for the No. 1 spot on iPhone. bSafe, which has relied almost exclusively on word-of-mouth marketing in its native Norway, has also gained significant traction on Android phones. Launching soon in the U.S. and the rest of the world, the app will also be available on BlackBerry devices.
Silje Vallestad promised to develop a mobile safety alarm for women with the $200,000 prize money she won when she was named Female Entrepreneur of the Year in March. The award and her efforts have resulted in the US launch of bSafe, a free mobile safety app.
